Brightening Up the Hallway

Brightening Up the Hallway

The downstairs hallway that leads to the bathroom, laundry room, and guest bedroom is small and dark. I wanted a way to brighten it up without adding a light fixture.

The easiest way to do this and to make a modern update was to remove the brown wooden doors and freshen them up with some white paint.

We took the doors down and removed all hardware.

I used the paint sprayer to coat the doors in Dutch Boy’s White Lullaby. I did one coat on one side then ran out of paint.

A trip to Home Depot later I had another gallon of Behr’s Paint and Primer tinting to the White Lullaby shade. It took four coats on each side.

The hardware got a face lift with Rustolium Oil Rubbed Bronze.

Once dried they were rehung. The paint was touched up. And the doors were left open for several days to make sure the paint was completely dry.

While I was at it I also took down the picture frame in the hallway (that I had yet to put pictures in) and bought a mirror to hang there that I found at Wally World.

The next change we made was to lighten the wall color.  I went with Moonshine a Ben Moore color that I had color matched at Home Depot in a Behr high gloss.

Look at that! What a change, it feels so modern, so bright. And it was much cheaper than buying brand new doors.
